Our History
PL Sells was founded in London after the Second World War by Peter Sells. Traditional ties were a fascinating aspect of social and business life at that time. During that time, PL Sells built up a reputation and archive for special stripe and crested tie designs which still continues today.
The ties represent not simply a way of dressing but also a sense of belonging. This identity is a feature of any club, school or regimental tie, often with a story behind the chosen crest , the selection of colours and layout of the stripes. PL Sells became the leading manufacturer of such ties and acquired James and Edwards, a Manchester company with similar expertise.
Further to the capabilities of designing ties and scarves, PL Sells has built up a full Collection backed by a stock service for in PL Sells for the menswear retail trade. These options include Country Ties, Wedding Ties, Formal Bows and Cummerbunds as well as Scarves and increasingly fashionable Knitted Ties.
PL Sells has remained a family company over many generations, latterly joining Atkinsons to enhance quality finish and access export markets.
